Crisis - what crisis?
Remembering the autumn of 2008 and the turmoil in the international financial markets during the ensuing months, professional philately exhibited its resilience and strength. Some market segments may have suffered a downward trend, but generally speaking auction turnovers and results presented a sometimes astonishing calmness in the face of the second global crisis of the new century ...

Antique stamps offer the best value
No matter what collecting sphere you look at, if you are looking for anything over 150 years old that is in near perfect condition you usually have to pay serious money. With stamps, however, there are many exceptions to this rule. Take for instance the 1841 to 1853 1d Red imperforates ...

We two are constantly being confused by readers of the magazine which is a source of amusement for both of us ...

Queensland cancels book will pay for itself
As you all know by now, my mantra for 30 years of writing columns has been ‘Knowledge Is Power’. Nevertheless, collectors hate buying literature in general terms and I’ve no idea why. Publishing philatelic literature is not the path to financial success - that much I do know for sure - but luckily for us collectors keep on publishing, and by their efforts we all benefit ...

StampShow 2009 a success despite Sunday evacuation
The annual convention of the American Philatelic Society, StampShow 2009, appears in the rear view mirror to have been a success on many fronts ... The show featured more than 170 dealers, several first-day ceremonies for United States and other stamps, more than 150 meetings and seminars, 15,000 pages of competitive exhibits, and official auctions held by the Regency-Superior and Heritage auction firms. There was a large youth and beginner area, and the popular ‘Stamps in Your Attic’ free evaluation service, which usually yields some buried treasure ...
