No early opening at Spring Stampex
Spring Stampex, organised by the Philatelic Traders' Society, will be held at the Business Design Centre, Islington, London N1 (close by Angel Tube Station) from February 27 to March 1. As the earlier opening at the last Autumn show did not seem to encourage attendance the timings have been changed for this event:

Wednesday February 27 - 11.30 to 19.00.
Thursday/Friday February 28/29 - 10.30 to 18.00.
Saturday March 1 - 09.30 to 17.00.

Entry is free on all days. www.philatelic-traders-society.co.uk

Healthy Philatex near to full capacity
About 115 dealers, a quarter of which are from overseas, will once again be at the Royal Horticultural Society's Lawrence Hall, Westminster, London SW1, on Thursday to Saturday, February 21 to 23 for the first Philatex show of 2008. This is, of course, a week prior to Stampex, which many Philatex dealers also attend. Opening times are:

Thursday, 11.00 to 19.00.
Friday, 10.00 to 18.00.
Saturday, 10.00 to 17.00.

Admission is free. www.stampshows.net/philatex

All's well that ends well
... At that point, the big Post Office area boss, Gerry Hooke, arrived. “There is no need to get worked up”, he rallied as his PSR started retching again, “It always comes together in the end”. No sooner were the words out of his mouth then, as if by magic, the coach arrived and all was well that ended well ...

Mystery of the man in the mask
On January 2 2008 there was a two-page spread in the Daily Mail featuring the story of Harry Bensley. Most people are not familiar with this name although if you were to say "The man in the iron mask" to any postcard dealer, the chances are they would immediately remember having seen postcards depicting this colourful character ...

Peter Mastrangelo, director of The American Philatelic Society, had an interesting column in The American Philatelist, January 2008, that may concern you as a dealer ... Here is another figure that surprised me since I didn’t realise just how big this trading site has become: 60% of members and non-members buy stamps on eBay.
